Treasure in Heaven

by Pastor Barreca on Feb 28th 2010 (AM)

What we do with our money is an important indication of our heart. Jesus told us to lay up "treasure in heaven." We do this by 1) resisting the temptation to focus our lives on accumulating and enjoying the things of this world, and 2) using our resources to further the work of God on earth.

A Marriage Characterized by Love

by Pastor Barreca on Feb 14th 2010 (AM)

The Song of Solomon’s is a beautiful song about “The Beauty and Development of Marital Love.” There is nothing impure about the words here. All Christians should accept that marital love is beautiful and special, even though only those who are married can participate in the physical union of marital love. As we survey the book, we will look at three points of summary:
Patterns to follow
Problems to overcome
Virtues to praise

How To Handle Disputable Matters

by Pastor Barreca on Feb 7th 2010 (AM)

We’ve learned that the issue in Romans 14 is that of weak and strong Christians.
Some ate meat, others did not.
Some honored special days, others did not

Now while these are not the issues we face in the church today, there are vital principles in Romans 14 that apply to how we handle disputable matters. Let’s begin by stating that these matters are not matters that the Bible commands. There should be no dispute about obeying the clear teaching of Scripture. Some of today’s key issues relate to the areas of entertainment, spending, social drinking, associations, music, etc.

Growing New Believers in an Atmosphere of Grace

by Pastor Barreca on Jan 31st 2010 (AM)

“How can a church help weak Christians become strong?

Specifically, we want to look at new believers. Now, granted not every weak Christian is also a new Christian. But every new Christian is weak, in the sense that they are just starting to walk and need to grow in maturity. While the words “new believer” are not explicitly in the text, We will apply this to a local church setting to learn how to grow together as believers.

Don't Be Deceived - This is NOT Love!

by Pastor Barreca on Jan 17th 2010 (AM)

What does true love look like? It's an imporant question, becayse most in our society accept the following as genuine love:
‒ Homosexual relationships
‒ Teen sexuality
‒ Couples living together
‒ Extramarital sex

Young people, you better understand what God says about LOVE.
Onen day, someone that you love, and you think loves you, is going to ask you to do something that really is not loving at all! You must know what true love is, so that you do not pursue something that is not love at all!

OUR THEME TODAY from Romans 13:12-14
CONTEXT = LOVE

The Significance of Love in the Last Days

by Pastor Barreca on Jan 10th 2010 (AM)

The believers in Rome were facing great hardship. Much like our day today, there was financial, political and cultural uncertainty. Believers wondered how to respond, and where to put their efforts. Some were already arguing with others about the way in which they were living. The Apostle Paul addresses these Gentile believers by encouraing them that of the utmost importance of love.

We can best show love to other believers when we maintain these three disciplines:
The discipline of corporate WORSHIP. Heb 10:25

The discipline of DISCIPLESHIP.
and the discipline of SERVICE.

Love One Another

by Pastor Barreca on Jan 3rd 2010 (AM)

In the mid-1800s, Texas rancher Samuel Augustus Maverick refused to brand his cattle. When neighboring cowboys came upon a calf without a brand, they called it a "maverick." The word entered the English language and came to refer to a person who takes an independent stand and refuses to conform.

A Benedict Arnold both mean "traitor." An Einstein is a genius,
A Solomon is a wise man. (David McCasland, Our Daily Bread, March 22, 2004)

Who you are and what you do speaks volumes. It IDENTIFIES you.
The same is true of a church.

Elizabeth - A Godly Woman Who Was Ready to Receive God's Blessings

by Pastor Barreca on Dec 6th 2009 (AM)

Does God really bless those who obey Him? Zacharias and Elizabeth were childless and brokenhearted. Yet they were a godly couple who trusted the Lord in spite of their disappointments. Their example can guide us and encourage us that although we may not see God's blessings when and how we want, He is faithful and we can trust Him.
